ALEXEY TITARENKO

"[I]n the purest tradition of documentary photography, Titarenko plucks fragments from daily life with no staging whatsoever. But the use of long exposures and the subtlety of his black-and-white cameos endow the reality he confronts with a metaphysical dimension, timeless and introspective."

BEAUX ARTS MAGAZINE

Alexey Titarenko is a Russian photographer who received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the Department of Cinematic and Photographic Art at Leningrad's Institute of Culture in 1983. His most famous series is called "City of Shadows." He uses a medium format camera and long exposers. I really enjoy the composition and blurriness of his images. In the future I hope to explore the use of long exposers and master the technique as well as Titarenko has.
